Common questions

01

What does Corvian do?

We take minority and majority positions in private businesses — mostly industrials, energy services, business services and real assets across Western Canada — and hold them for years alongside the people running them.

02

How does a partnership work?

It starts with a written mandate that sets the objectives, structure and governance. From there we source, invest and oversee on your behalf, staying inside the terms we set together.

03

Who do you work with?

Founders and entrepreneurs, private clients and families, family offices, and institutions and foundations — partners who prefer patient, aligned capital to short-term positioning.

04

Is there a minimum?

No fixed threshold. Because we take on only a handful of partnerships at a time, the fit matters more than the size of the cheque.

05

What do you not invest in?

Early-stage venture and pre-revenue companies, public-market activism or short positions, distressed turnarounds, and blind-pool funds. If your situation is one of those, we will say so on the first call.

06

How often will I hear from you?

As often as it’s useful — regular written updates on the agreed cadence, plus a direct line to the team whenever you want one.

07

Where are assets held?

With independent third-party custodians. Corvian directs how your capital is invested; it never holds custody of the assets itself.

08

How do you manage risk?

By watching positions against agreed limits all year, documenting the governance behind each decision, and keeping independent review in the loop.

09

How involved do you get after investing?

A board seat or observer role and input on capital allocation. We help when we are asked. We do not run the business — that is the operator’s job.

10

How do I start?

With a first conversation about what you’re trying to achieve. Reach out and we’ll arrange time with the team.

The details of every partnership are set out in its own written mandate, agreed with you directly.
